How we match companies and estimate ranges

What's behind the match quiz, the fit rating and the range indicator, and where our market figures come from.

The range indicator

The range follows the shape of one data buyer's published pricing model from October 2026. Each tool you use adds points; the total is scaled by a team-size curve, a years-of-records curve and an industry factor. The high end of the range is 2.5× the low end, and the low end is capped at $3M.

The result is a guide, not an offer. Buyer models tend to run optimistic so owners start a conversation. Real offers depend on the buyer's review of volume, quality and rights, and many come in lower.

The fit rating

  • Strong fit: 20+ staff, 3+ years of records, a communication source (email, chat or call recordings) and a main system of record (CRM, accounting/ERP, operating system, projects, support, CAD or code).
  • Possible fit: some but not all of the above. No single tool is required.
  • Not yet: under 10 staff, under 2 years of records, or no communication source, system of record or shared files.

Matching

We map your answers to buyer types (operating-company programs, industry records, full archives, CAD, codebases, wind-downs, exits) using each buyer's published minimums for headcount, years, tools and country. A person reviews every submission before we reply.

Market figures

  • $100K–$2M: recent reporting (October 2026) on offers to mid-sized companies, including buyers' own announced ranges. This is reporting about the market, not a promise for any company.
  • $10M / $7.5M: Spirit Airlines bankruptcy auction of internal business data, August 2026. Sources: Axios, Skift, Bloomberg Law.
